TCL LE40FHDE5200 Great LED Internet HDTV

Since I had been using LED HDTV TVs, I was curious how the TV from no-name manufacturers TLC proposes compared.

When unpacking it is striking that the TCL LE40FHDE5200 TV is handled quite well. The design is simple, the heavy glass stand is solid and the black frame around the screen is pleasantly thin and made of shiny plastic. On the plastic back and sides, the usual ports such as HDMI, VGA, etc. These being unfortunately only one scart connection is available. Although this is likely in the future more and more to be the rule, since many devices rely on HDMI, but I have a DVD player and receiver with scart connection. The supplied remote control looks a bit cheap, but it serves its purpose and is well laid out.

The image quality on the integrated digital cable receiver, is not objectionable with beautiful colors and contrast, and there are various scene modes like eg Movie, sports, etc.
The sound is tinny and has unfortunately very little bass. Again, there are different Sound profiles (Live, Music, etc.) that make it a bit better, but I’d recommend connecting external speakers.

Noteworthy are the connectivity options for USB flash drives and hard drives. These can either be used to play music, pictures, videos, or as a buffer for the time shift function, which is a nice touch. The software of the device I find very clear. All the settings are easy to find and very beautiful, I find that the TV image in the EPG continues in the corner. That was not my old TV.

  Good workmanship and design (thin frame)
  Good image quality
  Useful software functions (shift, videos / pictures / music from USB flash drive)

CONS
  Sound quality leaves much to be desired
  Only one scart socket

CONCLUSION:
  Overall I am happy with the TV, but I seriously wonder who would buy such a TV set for $550. For the Amazon price of the lesser known TV brand TCL is not unbeatable price, but can be found at the bottom of 40-inch TVs.
